How can a young person stay on the path of purity?By way of introduction to Beth, the second octave of Psalm 119 (verses 9-16), I've highlighted the actual first word of each verse, which gave David his acrostic outline for the octave (based on the Hebrew-English Interliear Old Testament at scripture4all.org).
By living according to your word.
I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your commands.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Praise be to you, LORD;
teach me your decrees.
With my lips I recount
all the laws that come from your mouth.
I rejoice in following your statutes
as one rejoices in great riches.
I meditate on your precepts
and consider your ways.
I delight in your decrees;
I will not neglect your word.
Psalm 119 Beth
The theme of this octave seems to be purity, asking and answering the question of the first verse: How can a young man keep his way pure?
A workable outline of David's very practical answer in the verses that follow:
- Pure Direction
- Pure Study
- Pure Openness
- Pure Speech
- Pure Joy
- Pure Meditation
- Pure Devotion
More on Psalm 119 Beth in the weeks to come.
